Odisha tax collection up by 8.7 percent

Bhubaneswar: Tax collection up by 8.7 percent in Odisha in 2013-14. Income tax department of Odisha region collected Rs 9260.3 crores of direct tax during the period. State beats budget estimate in terms of tax collection despite the slowdown shadow hovering over the economy. Last year tax collection was Rs 8517.4 crores.

This is the highest ever net collection achieved by Odisha region. This region not only achieved the budget estimate but also beat it by Rs 243.3 crores. Gross collection in the year 2013-13 has increased to Rs 10,729.4 cores as against Rs 10,268.w crores of last year registering a growth rate of 4.5 percent.

The growth rate in net collection in this region was all along showing a negative trend right from the begigning of the financial year. However persistent effort by the field officer has yield substantial in the last three months.
