Tata Steel Celebrates Maha Bisuba Sankranti and Odia New Year Day


Bhubaneswar:      Reinforcing its bonding with the people and culture of Odisha, Tata Steel has celebrated Maha    Bisuba Sankranti and Odia New Year in its operational locations in the State with great fervor. On this occasion, special programmes were organized at Kalinganagar and Joda.

    As part of the celebrations, various events like debate, essay writing, drawing, rangoli and tribal dance competitions were organised in the preceding days of the main function. More than thousand villagers from over hundreds of periphery villages in these districts participated in the various events with great enthusiasm.

   In the Odia New Year Day celebrations at Kalinganagar, Sahadev Sahoo, well known writer and former Chief Secretary of Odisha, graced the occasion as the Chief Speaker and Arun Misra, Vice President (Operations) of Kalinganagar Project of Tata Steel as the Chief Guest.

   Mr Sahoo and Mr Misra awarded the winners of the various competitions that were organised prior to    the main event. The winners of ‘Pragati’ Inter-village Football Tournament and Inter Women SHG competition ‘Tejaswini’ organised at Jajpur were also awarded on the occasion. Mr Sahadev Sahoo in his speech while giving insight into the various scientific reasons of observing Odia New Year on Maha Bishuba Sankranti also called upon parents to give ample freedom to their children enabling them to unleash their creative instincts.

  In the celebrations at Joda, M C Thomas, General Manager, OMQ, joined the function as the Chief Guest along with Chief Speaker,  Abasar Beuria, noted columnist and former diplomat and officials of the company. Mr Beuria in his speech highlighted the linkage between culture, traditions and environment and lauded the efforts of Tata Steel in their preservation. The winners of various competitions organised to commemorate the occasion were awarded by Mr Thomas and Mr Beuria. Spectacular cultural performance comprising of Odissi and Sambalpuri dances staged by local artists were the highlights of the show.
